There are enough scared as shit GOPers who would vote for it if they were allowed.  They don't want the vote because they are afraid they won't be allowed to vote for it.  SO folks like Jim Gerlach are stuck in between a rock and a hard place.  From everything I see (and hear) he is in deep trouble with his consitutents - who are for the most part more comfortable ignoring things and allowing him a pass each election.  But now they can't ignore this.  And many are torqued.

Gerlach needs this to go away before the anger sets in hard.  But if he has to vote no then he is doomed.  Right now he is simply trying to go around claiming that he WOULD vote for a clean CR - even though he won't sign onto the discharge petition like he said he'd do.  And he is claiming to be heavily involved in bipartisan negotiations to come to a "common sense compromise" - to which I replied the only common sense thing to do is NOT shut down the government and NOT default.

And he is not alone in this dilemma.
