  •  Isn't that the conservative argument, though? (2+ / 0-)

I mean, the actual conservative argument, not the nutcase know-nothing burn the house down argument.

The idea is that local communities (churches, community development orgs, local governments, schools, etc) will step up and help out their own and do it more intelligently than the federal government can do.

There is lots of empathy at the local level. I work with people of all political persuasions at the local level (I'm president of the PTO) and we make things happen.

This doesn't mean I think SS and Medicare should be slashed. Putting all the care of our retired workforce or our sick or disabled in the hands of unpaid volunteers is about as ridiculous as having volunteer armed guards in elementary schools. STUPID.

But I don't think the work of people who live and come together in their communities should be written off, either.

wonderful stuff! But I saw on MSNBC a local activist note that in my home state of CT, it's 90% federal dollars and 10% private to fund nutrition programs and food banks.

You can't make up the difference if the fed part disappears. It's un-possible.
