    My father earned his GED. He immigrated from to the US when he was 18. I forget the exact details, but his diploma from Kingston Technical School in Jamaica did not equate to a HS diploma here in the US because the British grading system is different (or something like that). He had the choice...he could enroll in the local high school and graduate at age 19 and a half; or he could get a GED. Yeah, he took the latter option.

    30 years later, he is now a supervisor in a public works department making a nice salary. Of course that is more likely due to him later getting his CDL and heavy equipment operator licenses.
