  •  Wouldn't be the first time Nate's been wrong. (7+ / 0-)

Trust, this is deep and long lasting. It has helped us tremendously with quality recruiting, and quality recruiting was where we were weak. Second, its going to help us big time with fundraising, which was another sore point. And third, most importantly, it woke up and rallied the Democratic Base.

'Government shutdown' can't be introduced into the body politic without consequences. It has a similar political antenna effect as 'war' or 'recession' among the broader electorate.

Nate and his 'no predictions' predictions will change as we get closer. Watch.

I think we finally fixed the confusion (any remaining) around the concept of the debt ceiling. There's a clear link now  if you don't raise it = default. default = worldwide catastrophe. I don't know that people were clear on that before. The whole household debt meme took a bath this week, and watching republicans try to reopen parts of the govt was priceless.

OTOH my banker still thinks the dems need to "figure out how to pay for ACA" and other entitlements..so still more work to do.

In my view political years are like dog years.

If the ACA turns out to be a big success then every Dem can run on the message of "See how much good we did?  Remember how the Republicans tried to extort us into denying medical care to millions?"

The Democrats should start running adds in every state that's denied expanded medicare to its citizens right now, explaining just how awful Republicans are.
