shutdown and default jitters to redland. This, "Interior allows a dozen iconic national parks to reopen with state funding," was certainly not a good move on the Administration's part—and note the taint of "Sagebrush rebellion" that should result in arrests if tried. The opposite should be the course, slam shut everything in the states that send these wackos here to Washington.

It really pisses me that took place, helping red staters our a bit while holding firm on keeping the District of Columbia hostage. Now, this may not be the saddest shutdown story photo—some kids are going hungry and some may even die—but it captures kids I've seen looking at the chains and locks on the neighborhood playground gates. Yeah, due to history most of the little squares and neighborhood parks in D.C. are National Park Service land so, even when the playground equipment was provided by residents, the park is locked. Still, as an article in today's Washington Post notes:

They are gambling that if they can hang together and remain tough to the end, they stand a chance to break a dangerous cycle that has taken hold in Washington — one of legislating through brinkmanship, which has brought the government and the financial system to the edge of disaster at least four times over the past three years.

“This not just about Barack Obama. This is about the next president, whoever and whatever party it might be,” Obama told Democratic senators at a White House meeting on Thursday, according to Senate majority whip Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.).

So, stay hard, the kids can take disappointment and maybe learning deep down that "Republican" is a synonym for poop. Wasn't always that way, but now it is.

The only foes that threaten America are the enemies at home, and those are ignorance, superstition, and incompetence. [Elbert Hubbard]
