  •  I Want to Negotiate (0+ / 0-)

I am tired of having the Democrats start with a Republican position and then negotiate that away. I think the Senate should take the CR they passed off the table. They should change the numbers in it to the original Democratic numbers, and send them a new bill.

And they should make it clear that those are the numbers going forward. If the Republicans want a deal on the debt ceiling, they need to work with Democratic numbers.

Cutting government spending has failed as a policy. There's no reason Democrats (including President Obama) should continue with that policy. I want to see them repudiate it. I want to see them say that they are willing to set an appropriate spending limit for each part of government through the normal appropriations process. If that means less money, fine, if it means more money, fine.

The military budget is over by about $350 billion a year. If they want to cut there, that's okay, because that's appropriate. But if they want to cut SNAP when it will literally cause people to starve, that's not appropriate.

So, no, I don't buy the "no negotiation" strategy any more. That was okay before the government shutdown. Now that the government shutdown has occurred the question is: "What should we do that's best for the country?"

You won't, of course, see our Democrats do anything like this because they have no sense of strategy. That's why the Republicans continually beat them time and again on all these issues. The correct strategy is: The Republicans got it wrong with cutting and they got it wrong with the shutdown. The country can't endure any more Republican policy. Give us a real mandate and we'll fix it.
