  •  I think Pope Frances may not appreciate (5+ / 0-)

the cruel, ruthless and unchristianlike, even unsecular- humanist politics of Rep. Ryan, who is a Catholic.  How about denying this major Catholic sinner Holy Communion.  Bishop?  And yet these right wing Catholic hypocrites affirm that a woman loving a woman is a deadly sin.  I cannot tolerate these assholes.

against John Kerry re Communion during the 2004 presidential campaign based on his position that women's reproductive rights should be between women and their physicians.

Indeed let us hear from those good bishops -- and yes, even the Pope -- on Congressman Ryan's proposal to eliminate funding for programs which help the poor.

And were smacked down by the previous Pope, for not being sufficiently anti-abortiony, or something.

Pope Francis is still pretty new, is still establishing his authority, and might be loath to publicly intervene in the internal politics of a powerful sovereign nation, at this point anyway. The Vatican upper reaches are still populated with reactionaries, and will be for the foreseeable future. I wouldn't hold my breath to see Paul Ryan get dressed down by the Vatican anytime soon.

The new Pope is still pretty new, but he seems to be an adept at playing old ideas.  Francis of Assissi goes back a ways and was as unsettling to some in power then as this new Pope (potentially) is now.

Agree -- I won't hold my breath on Ryan and the Vatican.
