There is no consequence yet.  But with one day to go, the consequence is very great.  And it will be every day after that.  It is just a wild thought that it would be embarrassing not to allow a one day continuance.

Could there be a sense of the senate resolution that the Senate believes the President has 14th amendment protection to act such that the debt of the United States is not brought into question?

I know Pelosi believes he has that authority.  And I don't mean just paying interest.  I mean redeeming T-Bills.

BTW, I saw the Van Hollen video on the rule change.  Stunning.

If we're going to go there anyways any reason we can't make use of that second sentence as well?

"But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States... claims shall be held illegal and void."

I'll admit shutting down the government is hardly insurrectionist but even non-violent resistance to authority can be considered rebellion--is it that far of a stretch to call deliberately shutting down the government of the united states for several weeks a rebellion?

Sounds to me like 14th makes it illegal to honor any debts owed to those rebels... no pay for you!
