    As a black Latino from Panama descendent of grandparents from the islands, the ones that built the canal, I find this abhorrent. I was born in Panama and only knew Panama. Where would I have gone had that happened in Panama?

    I read  about jus soli because of your article. Imagine, 60% of all American under this constitutional interpretation here (as opposed to DR) in the 1900 would be stateless, not US citizens.

    As we discuss immigration here, we should realize that the DR problem is a bigger problem here in America  with the intent of Tea Party 'racists'.

      understand - the whole situation is insane - these are Dominicans who haven't got a clue about Haiti, don't speak Kreyol - the whole racist mess needs to be stopped and yet I fear it won't be - the hatred of blackness/Haitians is too damn strong.

      And yes - the Tea Party would send all of us not white folks somewhere ...
