  •  Hang in there, Jim Beard. (10+ / 0-)

I live in Harris County (for non-Texans, that's the greater Houston area), and we've been working hard here to register voters. And we're going to continue to do so, and then work harder still to GOTV for Wendy.

So we're definitely not going to write off Texas. Having said that, I can only imagine how hopeless it must seem to you given the situation you've described.

I hope that you and some of your Democratic friends can carpool to a Battleground Texas event and/or to a Wendy Davis event soon. The energy and enthusiasm are contagious.

What I'm hearing over and over is folks expressing surprise at finding that they have so many neighbors who are Democrats. When's the last time you had a party for Democrats? Folks might like to get together to share their excitement regarding Wendy's candidacy, and you might find new people that way. And then stress how important it is to vote in the Democratic primary for her as well as for our other statewide Democratic candidates. Then as potential Democratic candidates see that folks are turning out to support Democrats, they might be more likely to run for office in future.

For the record, I do know that we are not going to get an overnight miracle. We are going to have to put far more boots on the ground, folks who are willing to do the work that it will take to turn our state into a battleground state that can elect statewide Democratic candidates. And I know that folks are working every single day on that. So what I'm trying to say is that reinforcements will be coming. Just keep on fighting, Jim Beard.

That is discouraging. I am very interested in the details, though. If you are interested and willing, please feel free to drop me a kosmail and pass along a little more detail about your county and the races there. I would love to write about small, downballot races where Dems are the deep underdog candidate.

Organizing is good but the most important part is election day. You must either call and/or go by their homes. It is a must because many Hispanics are low income and with reason suffer financial repercussions. Not overtly but it does happen.

It must be nice to find out you have Dem neighbors!  I'm in Fort Bend County (adjacent to Harris Co., for those who don't know) and I'm pretty sure I don't have ANY Dem neighbors.  I daringly put an Obama yard sign out the last two elections.  In 2008 it got stolen.  In 2012 at least nobody stole it, but I was about the only one in the neighborhood.  Oh well, at least my house didn't get egged.  Small victories.....

        Exactly:

        Small victories.....
In 2008, mine was the only car with an Obama sticker in the parking lot where I work. During the first couple of years, I occasionally got a note on my car advising me to watch Fox "news," but I haven't gotten one of those in years now.

I think we have to be visible supporters of Democratic candidates wherever possible. Hope you'll put a Wendy sign in your yard soon!

I already sent a donation to Wendy, while she was still in the middle of her filibuster (because I appreciate backbone!). So yeah, there will be more donations, a yard sign, and maybe volunteering.  I admit to being chicken about bumper stickers though.  I'm afraid somebody will key my car.......
