Bailey County. Yeah, Muleshoe, one of my crew commuted from there.
I can just imagine the extent of the price you might be paying there, most progressives from other places cannot imagine how those attitudes can spill over into day-to-day life situations.

I've spent time in the Panhandle, wingnut central (except for all the other wingnut centrals around the state). It ain't much better in South Texas either, though.

I appreciate the understanding. It just gets very hard at times. In the 2002 elections we had organized West Texas Democrats to help unify and improve communications between county Democratic units and the area. We had a Democratic candidates "caravan" going to all the counties with all the down ballot candidates under governor in the area of West Texas Democrats. We had info desk at fairs and 4th of July events.

Tony Sanchez was running against Bush and didn't bother with our events. (I could have sworn he was working for Bush)

We went all out and lost our butts. That is when I met Kirk Watson. At our event it was billed as Pete Laney (Speaker of the house from a local area county). I stood next to him and told him I would never forgive him letting Bush make his victory speech from the Texas House Chamber. He looked shocked but he finally realized when it was too late and he and the other Democratic leaders had run away to Oklahoma.

At one time the local Catholic church would let us us their fellowship center to inform of the candidates. Not so now.

      Glad you know our challenge.

BTW, Democrat turned Republican former congressman  Kent Hance and chancellor  of Texas Tech and hiring Alberto Gonzales for $100,000 a semester to teach, is retiring. What is even more scary, there is talk of making congressman Randy Neugebauer the new Chancellor. You remember Randy, the congressman that shouted "baby Killer" during Obamas State of the Union Speech and was the one that berated the National Park employee at the WWII Memorial last week.

We only have one non partisan media TV source that being the local CBS affiliate.

      Thanks again Bluefin!

      •  Oh yeah, Admiral Randy's a real gem, that (1+ / 0-)

would really torpedo TT's reputation wouldn't it? Neugebauer isn't exactly a smart intalecshawell feller, is he?
The 'Juanita Jean' website keeps a close eye on him and the rest of the menagerie.

Hang in there, there's hope for the state, but I doubt that West Texas will ever change much.

      •  Really? (0+ / 0-)

I had no idea about RN and TT. That would not be good.

State Dems just don't even bother if they feel the area is a waste of their time. That is a poor strategy.
