"national party is not doing enough" meme?  It is that attitude that has led to a 19 year losing streak statewide, the longest winless streak currently for any state.

We have enough resources to make things happen here.  We are not a small state.  We are Texas.  And we should act like it.

it is other support as well. Sharing databases, call lists, people on the ground to coordinate. That hasn't been happening.

I'm not going to get away from that. It is important. There is no reason to go it alone. It's not a dependency issue.

Our nearest TV station is at Midland, over 200 miles away, and we don't really get broadcast TV because of the mountains here. So elections ads are problematical.
We get mailing from the candidates during election season, a few from the national Dems but mostly from the congressional candidates' funds.
Radio ads? The only Big Bend-wide station is NPR (bless them), and the Mexican stations in Coahuilla and Chihuahua don't accept US political ads.
Further there are several local offices like judges and county commisioners who run and get elected as Democrats but actually vote and act as Republicans- they're the "power structure" here, huge landowners with gas and oil connections in the model of the infamous swine Clayton Williams.
So...we only have a few thousand votes. It might not be worth it for the nation party to spend money here, but believe me, it would be worth it to me.
If only Hispanics and young people voted here!

      •  It would be worth it and they should do it. (0+ / 0-)

If national or some coalition of Dem orgs dumped money into small regional markets like yours, at the very least it would force the Republicans to earn their supper and even more so it may pressure those Dems who protect their assets and positions by voting with R's just to maintain their position to do the right thing, because they would feel people are watching.

WOuld you be willing to write up a diary about what is happening with elections in your area as we move forward?

If not, what about sending me some details and filling me on on the nature of the local politics and I will write it up.
