    Republicans, before the Tea Party was really conceived.  They tried to run uber-conservatives in federal and state elections 20+ years ago and got trounced, so they regrouped and found folks willing to run for city and county school boards,councils, tax boards, judges, constables, sheriffs, etc. and were very successful. Then they moved to state senator/congressional seats, treasurer, state school boards, etc., and were successful there. Then, a horrible coalescence around Obama's election and they reaped what they had been sowing in those lower tier elections.

    We have to do better in this regard.
