    I've been in academe for 25+ years. I can tell you that my full-time, tenure-track junior faculty who officially have "eight hours" of class time scheduled per week are putting in 60-70 hours when all is said and done.

    There's no way anybody is teaching a quality course with only 2-3X the contact time spent grading or in prep. That may work in a large, anonymous lecture course with TAs to do the grading. But in our setting (liberal arts college, classes of 25 or fewer) it's more like 5-8X outside of class.
