  •  Reichert is surprisingly vulnerable: 40-52 (-12!) (5+ / 0-)

Darcy Burner was unfortunately the darling of many here, including kos, but she was the wrong candidate and/or ran bad campaigns against Reichert -- it was a seat we should have won in 2006 (and in 2008). The district lines have been re-drawn and Darcy is no longer in that District (thank god).

We need someone who can run an intelligent campaign, picking off centrist/swing/split/non-partisan voters (and not simply seeking approval from our base, as Darcy did both times).

    In the PPP poll:

    WA-08     50     Dave Reichert     32-47     -15     42     49     -7     40     52     -12     -5
Any promising Dems out there? In Wenatchee? Ellensburg? A Dem from east of the mountains would be a leading contender! C'mon, saddle up! :-)
    •  Not that surprising (1+ / 0-)

he's had phenomenal good luck. However, next time he gets to be at the top of the ballot alone, rather than hiding behind a Presidential, Senate, or Governor's race. Sorry to see Beutler's numbers, but that's the price of splitting one competitive district into an R-leaning and a D-leaning one (Denny Heck).

    •  I love Darcy but (1+ / 0-)

I watched a bit of a debate with Reichert (lived in another district or I would have watched the whole thing. )  I practically fell asleep listening to her wonky answer to a Reichert comment when there was a great comeback line hovering in the air above her head. She is great with policy, not so much with campaigning.

Hopefully this poll will inspire a strong dem to step up.

Be bold. Be courageous. Americans are counting on you. Gabby Giffords.

      •  Should have "gone Rove" on Reichert's record. (0+ / 0-)

Reichert's greatest 'strength' was that it took him 18 years to catch one killer, who has an IQ of 82, and who killed some 90 people on Reichert's watch.

Repeat: that's Reichert's main claim to fame.

If that's his strength, what are his weaknesses?

The 8th CD can't afford to wait 18 years to get health care for all its citizens. It can't afford to wait 18 years to raise education its children receive. Or to provide jobs and reduce unemployment. It can't wait 18 years to adequate transportation, to get people to work and home or get crops to market, without being stuck hours in traffic. In 18 years, traffic volume in the 8th CD will double -- and it takes 12 years just to make the plans for new highways. If you want to wait 18 years for solutions to problems that are a lot more complex than that created by one retarded killer, then Reichert's your man. If not, then replace him with a Democrat.
