There's protection from vandalism, which frankly this was but thankfully not to the memorials themselves, along with the fact those capital police there were working for no pay still as this crowd were screaming at them!!!!!

By law the memorials must be closed when the government has no funding, along with all the other results from that are and workers are furloughed from.

But once again you people are missing the point, it isn't the lawfully closed symbols, it's Nobody has paid for these wars nor the countries responsibility to those who served them, the VA!! That budget, grossly under funded, decades now and the wars from, is still mostly borrowed!

But hey, for decades, the people just easily ignore the issues from the wars, PTS, Agent Orange, Gulf War Syndrome to name but only a tiny few, so you all don't have to pay!!

I’ll provisionally accept the statements of the organizers at face value.  So, yes it was about the lawfully closed monuments.  Also, I’m a 60 plus life-long liberal who hasn’t voted for a Republican since Dan Evans was a Senator from Washington.  If I’m part of “you people,” who the hell are you?

    •  jimstaro, I'm a vet too, and I'm going to tell you (0+ / 0-)

what you're claiming would've gotten you exactly this response when I was AD (and likely my whole shop would've been backing it up): "Sir, with all due respect, sir, you go to hell, sir."

Under Gen. Shinseki the changes to the VA have been legion and salutary.

It's not his fault, or the vets' or their families, that the Gee O Pee favors sedition and nihilism over honoring the US government's treaties, contracts, and obligations. It's not the Capitol Police's fault that, absent NPS workers to care for the monuments, the barricades go up -- and nor is, contrary to what Canadian Cruiser and The Quitta want you to believe, that the fault of President Obama, VP Biden or the Democratic party. It's a direct result of Gee O Pee intransigence, funded by rich white guys' greed and rapacity. I do fully blame those who pour money into the Gee O Pee and Teawadjhadji coffers like they had no tomorrow to face -- and for whom US Vets and the reduced expectations set before our next generations are "acceptable consequences."

Don't fall for their bullshit! You're better than that, soldier. Or did they not teach you, in basic back when, about the dangers of scuttlebutt, rumor and unfounded speculation / gossip?????
