    just making an aside. I didn't think about how many Indian ranchers there are now.

    another commenter opined that the cattle were in 'horrendous' conditions. the LAT article does a good job of mentioning that the cattle were where they were supposed to be at this time of year. no mistreatment by ranchers, in fact, it was quite the opposite if you read the article.

    as long as this shutdown persists, we are ALL being punished.

    even if you think ranchers are wrong to get subsidies, the way to deny them taxpayer dollars isn't to shut down the govt. only tea partiers think that is a good idea.

    moral of the story: we should reward and punish interest groups with taxpayer subsidies based on policy, not punishment.

    but hey: if you think the 'free market should decide', GOP, then how do you explain handouts for farmers and ranchers?
