      The point of doing it is to take away the "they won't negotiate" talking point and furthermore, concessions expected of one side (as many even here anticipate) could be offset.

      The victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won, whereas he who is destined to defeat first fights and afterwards looks for victory.

        over something as critical as the debt ceiling. Not them. Not us.

          Negotiations are happening, now. The compromise worked out in the Senate was rejected by the House and the House is making its own proposal, now. That'll be 3/4ths of the way to the Republican ultimatums, you can safely bet.
