  •  More police to lie about what happened. (7+ / 0-)

More police are almost never the answer to anything.

    •  I think you are wrong. I think you are upset. (2+ / 0-)

Right now everybody is killing everybody. There are way too many guns, and way too few police. That's the way I see it.

Only gun owners can control their guns and they say oopsie way too much. I lost it, I forgot it, it just went off. Support Gun Kill Speed Limits and Gun Ownership Speed Limits.

      •  You're letting perception outweigh reality. (8+ / 0-)

Crime is way down in general all over the US.

The absolute number of murders is lower than it has been for a long time.

        http://www.disastercenter.com/...

and since the population is going up murders per capita are down even further.

Just because television and newspapers keep showing you violence doesn't mean more and more of it is happening. It just means people like to watch news about crime and violence and then they go on to make statements like

Right now everybody is killing everybody.

your diary says. More police means more opportunity to handle situations in an alternative manner.

You are passing on an alternative manner to handle the problem of citizen murder by police.  An alternative, which would employ people and reduce the excuse of needing a gun for protection because response time is not good.

You are dug in to your way of thinking. There is nothing you will consider other than kicking police ass.

unarmed and mentally ill citizens is more police.

Okay.  I don't buy it. I don't want to pay for it.  But you are entitled to your opinion.

            •  OK. You do not want to pay for the necessary (0+ / 0-)

LE to subdue a mentally ill citizen. First all, it takes way more people to subdue a mentally ill citizen than to make a traffic stop.

You might want to brush up your understanding how many people it takes to restrain someone who resists without hurting the person.

You are just upset and want to hurt back.

mentally ill citizens? I do. In fact, I know more than a handful of people who work every day with mentally ill citizens. They don't carry guns, and they don't roam in packs. There are very effective ways to either talk someone down or immobilize them with a mere handhold while awaiting transport to the regional psychiatric hospital. Where doctors, nurses and orderlies don't carry guns or roam in gangs either, come to think of it.

Everybody certainly aren't killing everybody where I live. In fact, most of the death-by-violence in my neck of the woods that isn't the usual lovers/nuclear family fatal abuse/shooting gallery shit is attributable to cops.

"Everybody" where I live isn't a cop, and "everybody" the cops kill aren't cops either. Maybe that's different where you live.

...you explore the history and the reasons this situation developed.  It hasn't always been like this.  We live in a very frightened, unjust, unfair society; and it's getting worse.  The fear and paranoia escalates.

I think we need to study how this has happened.  Starting with today and trying to impose more repressive, brutal methods to control the situation is only a short term, non-sustainable solution.

Bringing kids up in a society where they, particularly youth of color, have no hope of a decent life, let alone fair treatment, is a formula for disaster.
