  •  I'm glad I'm not having to work on this (3+ / 0-)

I'm a developer for what would be called the 'back end' of these kinds of applications, albeit on a much, much smaller scale, and I can't even imagine the nightmares their devs must be having right now.

I haven't looked deeply into this, but given all the various moving parts from each part of government and the private sector, I'm guessing each participant all just have public-facing APIs that the integration people putting the whole thing together just have to trust, or if you suspect something's wrong with it, forward the request to an entirely different development team to look into. That's a nightmare scenario for a live system that doesn't work.

I don't know, I'm sure many, many developers much smarter than me built this thing, but I can't help but scratch my head. Maybe if I pinch myself hard enough I'll wake up and check the news to see simple single-payer being rolled out.

Best of luck to those trying to enroll, if this isn't fixed by mid-November ACA is going to be in some deep shit.

    •  They better be developing a Plan B. (0+ / 0-)

This thing is a huge pile of crap. Not just the horrible bugs and glitches, but the layout requiring so much data and coordination between organizations just to see prices.

It will have to be scrapped, eventually, and a new system will replace it. But we don't have time for that. They NEVER testet the damn thing. Unbelievable in this business.

    •  I've spent a lot of time doing that kind of work, (0+ / 0-)

and it certainly  can  cause problems.

Given where my attempts to register have failed, I'm a thinkin' there's more to the problems than that.  Probably a whole shitpile of bugss.

With any luck, those bugs have been logged and steadily zapped in development and test environments.

It's very possible (likely? Who knows?) that the next production deployment will radically improve the user experience.

      Let's hope so.
