How about that we're teling an actual human being, Lashante Austin: "Go away, black woman. We need a white woman to represent America!"

    This is killing me.

      I tipped and recced this.

I'm black and while I share your outrage and agree with you.

      But chaunceydevega is 100% right.

Remember, the face of poverty prior to LBJ's War on Poverty  was actually a white face (think JFK's tour of Appalachia).

The GOP made the face of poverty young bucks with 40's and welfare queens with Cadillacs.

It wasn't black people that fell for that okey-doke.

      •  Chris Hayes: "Hey! I don't want no blackies! We (0+ / 0-)

wanna sell this shit! Get me a white lady!"

That's how what you and Chauncy want here would work in the real world. THAT is how it would work.

You have not thought this through. You really, really, really have not.

the premise.  Because it's lazy.   I'm not down with lazy or shortcutting the truth or the facts because this country has dumbed itself down.  If people really think that the true face of government workers is a black woman, then they will get what they deserve out of this mess.

that maybe "people" who think that way are getting what they deserve out of this but the rest of us don't deserve to get sideswiped with their issues.

is that Lashante Austin is the only face of the shutdown we're seeing thus far -- maybe Hayes should have a short "Faces of Republican Failure" piece on each show, with a different person affected by the shutdown each day. You could have a high school whose senior class trip to Washington DC, planned for over the past 3 years, has to be cancelled. A CDC data analyst who can't tally reports from the latest flu outbreak. An SBA clerk with a backlog of loan applications on her desk...and the small business owner who is in limbo while waiting for her loan application to be approved.

There's only one rule that I know of, babies -- goddammit, you've got to be kind. -- Kurt Vonnegut
