    They sit in holding areas being irradiated for days/weeks before delivery. Actually, since 9/11 e-mail is one of the better ways to communicate with a 'critter.

      The best way to send a snail-mail letter is to send it to a local office, NOT the DC office.

      You are right in that DC mail is scanned and takes a long time to get through security.

      That level of scanning does not occur at local post offices, so mail goes through much faster.

      (I dunno if that is still the case, but assume that still holds.)
