From what I understand, while aware of how impotent and incompetent he is in the job, Boner loves the trappings of being Speaker. He likes the title, the perks and the feeling of being an important person. It's why he so desperately tried to put this off for so long. He really doesn't want to lose that.

thought up the message thing? He had it quietly waiting in his pocket for the time it would be useful, and, now, POW. If it all works, he will be able to say he kept his word about the debt. That may be worth a lot to him, personally. Not completely deserting who he is just because of the company his party makes him keep.

So many of these morons do not understand the rules and procedures of their own chamber, or even the Constitution, which they say they love so much (like "Just because the Supreme Court says something is Constitutional, doesn't make it so!" Uh, that's exactly what it means!).

I follow this stuff pretty closely and didn't know about the message exception. And I also wonder if he didn't get this suggestion from Nancy Pelosi. She knows this stuff inside and out. Not that she'd want to help him out, just that she wants to end this debacle.

Friends don't let friends vote Republican.
