Reid was the majority leader.  I think he has more skin in the game than to allow the capitulated to dictate any terms at this point.

      •  McConnell may be with him on that, esp. as he has (0+ / 0-)

a Teabagger running against him. McConnell has a big interest in getting the 'get things done' more traditional R guys and gals doing well and looking sensible during the next year, and not having blowups like this horror. His traditionalism may also be to maintain the power of the Senate generally, in the "House proposes but Senate disposes' line.

      •  Yeah, last time I checked, Reid has run the Senate (1+ / 0-)

with an iron fist, brooking no dissent, pushing through scores of Dem bills to successful up-or-down votes since Jan 2009. McConnell (superfluous minority doormat) will be, at best, a footnote to Reid's unparalleled legislative steamroller of victory!

        Oh, wait.

        •  I'm talking going forward, clearly. (0+ / 0-)

Of course, this 'deal' could be a red herring and we would need to see the details being worked out with the turtle, but up to this point in this current crisis, Reid has held firm and he should get credit when credit is due instead of some backhanded bitching.

          •  This would be really funny if not for the context (1+ / 0-)

and consequences to we the not-1%ers.

Three Cheers for Reid, he's actually handling this one event like a Senate Majority Leader!!! (nevermind the previous 4.5 years!)

It rings just a painfully hollow as:

Three Cheers for this POTUS, he's not bargaining with SS cuts today!!!  (nevermind that he's a) on record repeatedly with his Very Serious desire for "entitlement reform", and b) he has already stated he'll negotiate on anything if R's release this hostage)

These are Rec listed swooning WINS?

Obama and the Democrats have utterly defeated the Tea Party.
            Oh, man.  Victory declared.  Again.

            We Are Fucked.

The 1%ers will do what they do.  They have since the beginning of the beginning of our form of government.  I'm frankly sick of worrying about what they will do.  I'm more concerned about what we are going to do.

And this diary wasn't really about us winning anything.  That's how many chose to take it.  It is about a NYT article discussing Obama's current position.  To a certain extent, it is working because the GOP's dysfunction is now clearly out in the open for all to see and it's a genie they will not be able to put back in the bottle.

This thing will end sooner than later and there will likely be real economic damage because of it.

But if we want to make real progress towards ending the GOP's dangerous games, then we need to redefine how our side views non Presidential year elections.  Our votes count or don't count at all elections now.
