  •  wait, what is this?... (3+ / 0-)
    It also includes language allowing President Obama to waive the debt ceiling, which could be overridden by a vote of disapproval by Congress that could then be vetoed by the president;
    That sounds like it would end future nonsense to me.  Am I misunderstanding this?
    •  From what I've gathered (7+ / 0-)

      this is standard operating procedure: President, operating under 14th amendment, informs Congress of move to raise the debt ceiling to prevent default on public debt, Congress may vote to signal displeasure, President vetoes the measure and the debt ceiling is considered raised.

      And instead of taking umpteen days off now, they should keep their butts in town and draft and pass legislation to eliminate this silly nonsense of ceilings, debts and otherwise.

      This sounds to me like the choreography of a waltz...

      Step 1: Debt hits ceiling. Find your partner.

      Step 2: President waives ceiling. Hold partner's right hand, arm around waist.

      Step 3: Congress expresses disapproval. Man steps forward, woman one step back.

      Step 4: President vetoes measure of disapproval. Spin partner.

      Repeat to the beat.
