    You may have been correct in spirit, but incorrect in practice because you overestimated their relative power compared to Speaker John Boehner.

    In the end, the Tea Party extremists did indeed vote against raising the debt ceiling and against reopening the government.  So did a majority of the supposedly not as extreme house Republicans.

    But they alone had no power to stop legislation in the House.  John Boehner always had the power to simply bring legislation up for a vote.
