    •  Last I checked, when it comes to ANYTHING... (8+ / 0-)

...related to the economy, everyone other than the ruling class has been getting shutout and shutdown for far too long!

    •  I fail to understand why they have credibility (5+ / 0-)

In my opinion, Simpson and Bowels (sic) always had a myopic focus.

Did they ever, for example, talk about the big elephant in the room -- (uh, no, I don’t mean the GOP one) -- i.e. the American defense budget? If they ever did highlight the huge savings to be made, I must have missed it.

For instance, how about reducing USA’s military budget to the sum of the next seven countries? Believe it or not, that would be significant!

Moreover, military cuts seem far more fair than committing such heinous crimes as reducing the Social Security benefits from taxpayers who actually spent a lifetime paying that into the Social Security Fund.
After all, this is their money -- not the government’s. Even though the government throughout the decades has borrowed $ 2,700,000,000,000 from the Fund. A fact that Simpson, Bowels & Cohorts would conveniently prefer to forget.

      •  President Ronald Reagan said: (3+ / 0-)

"Social Security has nothing to do with the deficit"

        Reagan also said:

"Social Security is totally funded by the payroll tax levied on employer and employee"

That's something else we need to hammer on.

An infrastructure repair plan creates jobs--many, many jobs. Many, many wage earners will subsequently be contributing to the Social Security fund.

The fund is "having accounting issues" primarily because a LOT of jobs generating wages no longer exist. Wage earners are no longer filling its coffers. Funny how you never hear it put like that very often, isn't it?

Put people back to work. And raise that limit on earnings enough to reflect reality. Problem solved.

And get these astroturf millionaire Fix the Debt assholes out of here. These funds are not theirs to worry about. We need to make that loud and clear: stop worrying about something that doesn't even really concern you, let alone hurt your deep pockets.

And our government needs to be reminded who the fuck they work for. And it's not them.

          •  But from their point of view... (2+ / 0-)

It is their problem. Think of it: Here is wealth that isn’t their’s.
Hence the need for a remedy.

            •  Heh! (0+ / 0-)

Well, none of us voted for them for THAT point of view. Particularly since it was not one being espoused during their campaigns for office.
