  •  Was it only yesterday we were cheering no cuts (0+ / 0-)

And now you're back willing to cut our most cherished programs in return for nothing.  What was the point of the recent drama if you were going to cut Social Security and Medicare anyway?

the first is about funding the government. That should never be in question and the credit of the US is not a bargaining chip.

However the budget is always up for debate, now if you want to take the position that the Democrats should just dictate terms to the GOP you can. However I would point out that that is exactly the position the GOP has taken and it sounds very unreasonable and childish.

Now that said demanding tax increases effectively is the same thing mind you as the GOP is so inflexible that they will never accept that but the advantage is that you at least get to appear to be the adult in the room even as you know the GOP will never accept it.

to ask what will you give me if I give you this?

Honestly my starting point would be something like a 0.03% transaction tax, removing the 100k (or there about limit) on SS taxes and a general tax increase on the top 20%. I'm not sure what the GOP would want maybe a 'raise' of retirement age to 67? That to me wouldn't be as a big a deal given that's it already happening as we speak.

But really your question is impossible to answer and more over it's an emotionally laden trap that indicates you don't understand how negotiation works.

          •  Actually (0+ / 0-)

I'm not sure you understand how politics works.

Sometimes you offer the deal they won't take that sounds wonderful to the general public and you advertise the hell out of the fact they rejected the deal to punish them at the polls at the next election.

Oh, you're against helping seniors? And for those on Wall Street who ruined my 401K?  Good to know. Off to vote now.
