Devoutly religious people are dangerous to themselves but more importantly, to others.

It is fortunate that she went off this way and not with an AR-15.

Man created GAWD and people like this are a danger to us all.

I'm devout in my beliefs and I don't believe in harming others or myself, nor do most of the believers I've known over the years.

Frankly I've had dialogues with God numerous times over the years. Generally internal, but I have felt His presence and I have heard His voice within.

He's never asked me to do anything that would harm someone, or that would harm myself. He's at times not answered questions that I had for reasons of His own, and there have been times He's guided me away from saying something awful and hurtful to someone in a moment of anger.

The faithful are not the problem. The problem is unscrupulous radio drones who manipulate people's fears about conspiracies and doubts about what's going on in the world to drive them to the point of madness. The problem is preachers not teaching the Word of God but political messages from the pulpit. Getting back to basics would solve a whole lot of problems.

But then there are some of the things God has said to believers recently:

        • Gays should die, support capital punishment laws for gays in Africa.

        • Women can't be trusted with their own reproductive health
          - take away contraception in health care
          - close family health clinics
          - punish them with rape by object "exams"
          - lie to them about abortion

Whenever someone claims to be speaking for God, my ass twitches.

A lot of what's going on right now isn't right. I don't know how to fix it, because it would take a metric ton of money to establish a network to compete with TBN so that other preachers would be willing to come on and just talk about the Gospel and not the stuff the others get into.

There's a lot going on in the world I don't like, but I don't know what to do, and I can't fight every battle. I just don't have the strength or the health. I try to write to people and tell them when they're wrong, often to no avail, but that's the best I can do.

Well that and talk about the real message. Which is what I try to do in my everyday life.

You choose to focus on the benevolent parts. Others choose the fire and brimstone.

For thousands of years, people have died (either by choice or by murder) over exactly these issues. This is why our Founders had the good sense to keep God away from our government.
