  •  The inconsistency is in his political philosophy (1+ / 0-)

but I think many see him that way because we're used to a republican worldview founded upon hate, ignorance, and stupidity.  Sullivan is an old school conservative who is smart and sane.  He doesn't hate minorities and he views torture as a war crime.  He thinks independently.  He's the sort of conservative friend with whom one could have interesting debates back in the 80s.

So when people see that he's anti-torture, they expect him to also oppose the Iraq war, but he didn't and so it seems inconsistent.  He doesn't hate minorities, but he's a conservative, which is another glaring inconsistency for conventional political divisions in modern America.

I respect him for his independent views and find his "inconsistencies" fascinating and sometimes illuminating.  Sometimes he makes me question my own views, which a nice change from most modern republicans who make me question their sanity.
