  •  Those chickens have certainly taken long enough (5+ / 0-)

To do the whole coming-home-to-roost thing. It was predictable back in the late 70s/early 80s, when St. Ronnie the Divorced first added the religious fundamentalists to the GOP coalition. It was an amazingly successful strategy for two decades, providing the GOP with a small army of dedicated, energized activists with which to win elections while the party leaders celebrated their victories and laughed at the hayseeds they had conned.

Of course it was inevitable that the longer the GOP followed this course, the more "true believers" would be voted into office, especially when the religious fervor went well beyond social issues into taxation and other public policy issues (so we now have the despicable image of Tony Perkins, head of the FRC hate group, claiming government helping the poor is unchristian). That's what brings us to this sorry state of affairs in the GOP, and it's about time. Their strategy was always so disgusting that it should only have ended in failure and we're witnessing the all-too-slow crack up now.

Boycott Russian vodka, Russian caviar and all things Russian. LGBT oppression cannot be allowed to stand.
