    No matter how willing the GOP might be adopting the policies of the 1990's will not recreate the economy of the 1990's because the baseline economic conditions are radically different.

    Economic activity was very high in the 90's and it's an open question whether the cost-cutting of those days was a help or a hindrance.

    But today when demand is depressed and unemployment is high what we need above all is a huge increase in government spending. And that is just not on the table from any of the parties to the budget debates.
