  •  Erick Erickson and his Red State blog (6+ / 0-)

is who I think that was aimed at.

Erik was certainly leading and guiding the Teabagging calvary from that place.

    •  perhaps (4+ / 0-)

the reference could have been more specific.

Or is it, that were "all the same"?

Don't believe everything you hear on cable news chanels, I think we could figure out he was talking about FoxNews.

Blogging covers a huge swath of folks now.

      •  There's some indication (6+ / 0-)

that Obama does think we're all the same--at least, progressives and Tea Partiers:

"I'm the President of the United States," Obama told Boehner. "You're the Speaker of the House. We're the two most responsible leaders right now." And so they began to talk about the truly epic possibility of using the threat, the genuine danger of default, to freeze out their respective extremists and make the kind of historic deal that no one really thought possible anymore — bigger than when Reagan and Tip O'Neill overhauled the tax code in 1986 or when Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich passed welfare reform a decade later. It would include deeper cuts in spending, the elimination of all kinds of tax loopholes and lower income tax rates for all.

And I've certainly heard that view enough times around here.

I tried to go online to find a similar bear head...but when I searched “Big Bear Head” it gave me a San Diego craigslist ad entitled “Big Bear needs some quick head now” and then I just decided to never go on the internet again.--Jenny Lawson

        •  So you think DailyKos is an extremist blog (0+ / 0-)

I've heard it championed by some of the loudest on the far left that it is an establishment blog?

So, maybe he wasn't talking about us.

          •  It's not me that thinks so. (5+ / 0-)

But plenty of people on here have identified progressives here as being "the same as the Tea Party." And I don't know who the Democratic party's "extremists" in the eyes of Obama and Boehner would be, if not the liberal/progressive wing of the Democratic party. Do you think they were referring to extremist Blue Dogs?

to discern between extremist left blogs and DailyKos, he's not stupid.

So it's OK if he's just talking about Voices on the Square and Firedoglake. We know he's not talking about us. We're the good bloggers.

is the same as those two blogs then I'll disagree with you. I'm not talking about good or bad either SouthernLiberalinMD, we're all just folks.

                  •  Of course I'm not saying DK is the same as (3+ / 0-)

those blogs. There are some obvious differences.

What we're talking about here is that the President is using his bully pulpit to tell America not to listen to the bloggers, and even opposing "bloggers" and "professional activists" to the proper civic function of our country.

You're saying "don't worry about it, he doesn't mean us (DK) just those other bloggers."

Quite probably true, but I'm not comfortable with creating a category of blogs that are OK for the American people to listen to (mostly because they spend a lot of time making sure not to sound extremist, whatever that means) vs blogs that aren't OK for the American people to listen to.

            decided minority.

Most of the traffic here comes from relatively affluent degreed and pedigreed members of the upper middle class.

That doesn't mean that's all there is, though.

He's calling out both sides to make himself look like he's more reasonable in the eyes of independents and conservatives and, of course, the media.

DK is quite progressive overall and in terms of the political landscape could be considered pretty extreme.  But I have found that it is also much more based in reality (overall.  There are always exceptions) than the other end of the extreme.
