  •  What's worse than his statement about (10+ / 0-)

    bloggers, or just as bad:

the professional activists who profit from conflict
He's not just talking about the tea party, in my view. Remember when Gibbs talked about "the professional left?"

This is an anti-activist meme based on the idea that ordinary decent Americans stay passive politically, and that's how you can tell they're ordinary decent Americans--whereas bloggers and activists must have some nefarious ulterior motive, especially the activists, who are probably making money off their activities somehow. (Apparently those checks from Soros are coming soon.)

It's a very creepy meme because basically if you get active you're automatically suspect. Only the people who limit their political activity to voting and maybe giving a few donations or phone-banking round election time are decent Americans without an ulterior motive to screw the rest of the country.

I don't know if Obama actually believes that activists are just schemers looking to make money off their activism and trouble for ordinary Americans, or if he's just selling this view, but it's not the first time I've seen this view come out of his Administration.

This guy is not a friend to the grassroots. Which would be fine, if he'd always been up front about that. But it's pretty shitty to take people's help and then dump all over them once you get what you wanted.

    You're welcome?

I tried to go online to find a similar bear head...but when I searched “Big Bear Head” it gave me a San Diego craigslist ad entitled “Big Bear needs some quick head now” and then I just decided to never go on the internet again.--Jenny Lawson

I don't appreciate being encouraged to rise up and be active and organize up until Jan 20, 2009, and then being castigated as a (probably paid) rabble-rouser ever since.

Not just rants by Gibbs, it's what the President thinks too.

People paid by Greenpeace and The Sierra Club to organize activism = Monsanto Lobbyists.

These people are perpetually trapped in 1993.
