    When one has the title to a material asset, it's an ownership right. Or, more conventionally, a property right. Pensions are property rights, ownership deferred for use at a later time.

    That ownership is balanced by a contractual obligation, which some untrustworthy people seem inclined to unilaterally abrogate. Contractual obligations which are intentionally dishonored constitute fraud.

    While it is not unusual for American free enterprise to renege on its obligations, we should not let them get away with it.
