and the people. My wife and her mother's family are from the area. There family farm is east of Lubbock just before you drop off the caprock. Great people. At least when i lived there twice, 1974-5 and 1979-82. We go back a couple times a year. I don't understand how they've become who they are now.

My MIL grew up dry farming cotton. She is a die hard Democrat. Born in 1933, she remembers the changes the New Deal, electrification, huge military presence, as well as farm, crop, and land use supports the federal government invested in the people of west Texas that were instrumental in building modern day Texas. She is quick to admit so many who live there today, and have benefited from those programs, have forgotten or are so wrapped up in themselves that they have lost the idea of community and government being one to make everyone's lives better. It's not the same place I knew when I lived there. Assclowns like Neugebauer prove the point.

Dry farming cotton ... we had a freeze warning for tonight, and a lot of it's still in leaf ...

and lived near Halfway for almost 20 years. I feel the same way (their state rep was Pete Laney). I lived there for four years, and I kind of miss the place - but not the politics.

Part of the problem is that the newspapers and TV and radio are almost all conservative and have only gotten father to the right. That was obvious even in 1992.

(Is it time for the pitchforks and torches yet?)
