    That any hardship visited upon the assailant is somehow undeserved and far worse than what his (usually his) actions amounted to.  I think it has to do with the idea that nothing was "stolen" from the victim, like their car or television, and they weren't killed.  On the physical plane, nothing about the victim has changed.  Even if socially and mentally and emotionally they're now a mess, that somehow isn't thought to be the attacker's fault in their mind.  Perhaps they even think if the victim had simply remained quiet or agreed to sex in the first place, this wouldn't be happening to them, so it's their fault.  It's a messed up way to live life, and speaks volumes at how our society views the crime that they aren't condemned for feeling that way.

    I'm likely making this up as I go along.
