    a colony of retired SDA folk living in NoCal back in the Sixties.  Same guy had Lambs Quarters seed he had selected for big leaves, dwarfing the little quelite leaves we see here.

    Another of those folks sold us honey they harvested for 12 bucks for a 5 gallon can.

      in my yard and garden - especially those that green up early in spring - are actually more nutritious than regular garden cultivars of lettuce and spinach. Lamb's quarters, purslane, chickweed, ground mint, sheep sorrel, etc. Oh, and we love the early violet flowers and forsythia blossoms thrown in to color up a spring salad. Chopped day lily buds too, or batter and fry 'em!

      There are several varieties of amaranth with very nutritious greens as well as plenty of seed (which can be cooked like quinoa or ground into flour). Most won't grow this far north, but will grow in southern regions and near-desert.
