  •  Well, today went very well. (8+ / 0-)

Bear came home around midnight with the 12-hour bug that has gone around the house, and wound up taking tonight off of work.

He worked through that most of the day, and by four pm felt much better, so we went out and bought cat litter, and I went to see what clothing styles were in the store for women my size, and was there anything I'd buy if I got money. I'm excruciatingly picky. I despise the three-quarter-length sleeve. I don't like prints and bold patterns, ruffles, style lines, darts, fitted through the body, or pretty much anything that isn't just plain garment. And they had a dusty violet open cardigan with a shawl collar in a mixed rib knit, with long close sleeves and turnback cuffs, that I just liked very much. I tried it on. I fit in a 1X (WOO!). "Put it in the cart," he said.

I have not owned a new garment for four years. The last few years my "new" clothes have been the occasional shirt found in the trash and washed up and given me by my mother in law, or offered to me by someone who'd outgrown the size I wear in one direction or another. Is it any surprise I cried?

He even agreed that this week as we get money we need to go back and get a couple more; they're $26, and I could use a black one and a navy one. And if I get a tan one, I will dye it red, because I like red.

And then we went out to supper, and I had catfish. Which I had been wanting for about a month, and it was delicious.

And then he was patient while I went in the fabric store and bought a yard of fabric to make a purse organizer out of. (Very pretty red paisley.)

I worked on it a bit tonight, talked to my boyfriend online, and generally read DKos and surfed the net. And pretty soon I'll go to bed.

When you come to find how essential the comfort of a well-kept home is to the bodily strength and good conditions, to a sound mind and spirit, and useful days, you will reverence the good housekeeper as I do above artist or poet, beauty or genius.
