  •  I am the caregiver for my parents (6+ / 0-)

who are 90 and 92.  They live independently in Senior housing and for most of the things you mentioned the housing authority takes care of minor repairs.  My role is to make sure that they get to Dr. appts, fix the computer when my Mom screws it up and any other bothersome things that I can relieve them of.  I am thankful that they are doing as much as they can to be self sufficient.  My Mom still drives locally and my Dad who is functionally blind is a newshound who with his computer and TV sources is the most educated person I know about politics. (Yes he is a Democrat).  I gladly give my time to make their life easier..  They are my joy and I try, every day, to emulate the marriage that they have (70 years next August), based on respect, love, humor and affection.  They dote on each other and each puts their needs second to the others.

If your mother is unable to pay for her own repairs perhaps it is time for her to be in another living situation that will provide more of the services she needs.  That would give you more time to just enjoy her company.

Do the little things you can and hire the rest out..  Do the best you can, that is all you can do.
