    something else. That's why one of the most moving displays at the Holocaust museum in DC is the shoes. It's a tangible reminder of the vastness of the inhumanity.

      I even found on Sept. 11, 2001, that watching the horrific scenes on TV didn't sink in the way looking south at the nauseating white and black smoke and debris drifting slowly across the East River did. There are different levels of being confronted with evidence of an atrocity, and different levels of acceptance. To this day, I find it traumatic and rather enraging to see so much as a photo of the towers burning.
