    we experience it is wrong. However, as in the economic dictum that the buyer should beware of being cheated and consider himself culpable, if he fails, the idea keeps popping up because it is comforting to the innocent and blame-shifting for the guilty. Not to mention that this false confidence of being able to anticipate evil facilitates the doers of evil because it provides them with the element of surprise.
