    with even the relatively few American casualties kept far from public view. War without tears...

    for us.

    I'll never begin to understand the many Kossacks who try to argue that drones are "just another weapon." Just another weapon... whose ultimate target is our national soul.

      At least, that's true for anyone of my age (50) or younger, since we grew up with the video game mentality firmly in place. Blasting the "bad guys" on a screen is mentally distancing and consequence-free in either case. When it's real at the other end you can even add in the god-complex factor of having the power of life and death over others; as the Stanford Prison Experiment proved, that kind of power breeds callousness and violent/abusive behavior toward those against whom the power is directed, almost regardless of the personality of the person given that power.
