  •  If they had this system in during the 2000 (10+ / 0-)

election, Gore would've won the state.  No Bush. No Iraq War. No financial meltdown. No deficit and debt explosion. Have at it Florida GOP, it won't help you as much as you think.

...it's a 2-stage plan:  gerrymander the districts to disproportionately give them to repukes, then change the law.  The idea is to lose the popular vote but still get the VAST majority of electoral votes from the state.  That's why, in my view, they'll get cold feet -- it's such an OBVIOUS powerplay, even for them.

in the I-4, So Florida, Tallahassee and got pretty close in Duval County.  Those are the primary population centers of the state.  The district boundaries will just lock in EVs for both sides.  Initially the GOP might get an advantage, but before too long it will essentially be split and Florida will be come electorally irrelevant. Imagine that, a state with 29 EVs that no one cares about.  Bet you the Cuban population of Florida is not going to like that idea.

Looks like GOP is trying to set NASCAR rules so they can win by coming in second.  It's not going to work.

The other thing we need to remember is that the districts that were set in 2010 during the middle of the housing crisis probably look a lot different demographically speaking now that we're in recovery.

Plus I can't see Florida turning down all that money and attention they get from being the grand daddy of all swing states.  The GOP will really have no incentive to advertise in the cities (basically the blue districts) and the Democrats can focus on winner take all states that may be in play.  Plus Democrats can basically discount the state altogether since the 10 electoral votes from Florida are a lock.  In that case, it probably actually hurts the GOP because that's 10 electoral votes they won't get.

All that blue money that had been spent in Florida can now be sent to places like Indiana, Missouri and Arizona.

I say please proceed because I think we can all agree, no one wants to count on Florida to win an election.
