in the House (an oxymoron?) could shift the balance of power by resigning as Republicans, declaring themselves Independents, and selectively caucusing with Democrats.

In a stroke, they could render the Tea Party irrelevant, and also make themselves very powerful indeed. They could help shape the Democrat's agenda by actually negotiating. In effect, they could kick the tea party out of the House, and get on with the business of actually governing. As things stand now, the sane wing of the Republican party (assuming it exists at all) is as helpless as a leaf blowing in the wind.

A very few Republican senators -- maybe just 5 or 6 --  could complete the revolution by doing the same, depriving the Tea Party of the filibuster.

All of this would take place just after the 2014 elections, in order to give the rebels time to make their mark on the body politic.

I am not necessarily saying that this would be good for the Democratic party, but I think it would be good for the country overall.

Maybe it's just a daydream. Maybe they're not that smart.

Republicans proved in October that they are UNFIT TO GOVERN. Don't let the voter forget it. (-7.25, -6.21)
