  •  I wonder if there is a point (12+ / 0-)

where they go to a straight wingnut welfare model. Probably not for Rush, I don't think his ego could handle it, and he would choose to retire with a big "I'm going out on top" show, but for the rest of the Pantheon of Big Mostly White Whales.

But the Money Class of the Right treating talk radio more like the Weekly Standard or National Review than a for-profit model.

I think, longterm, this is the only way to keep this model of disinformation, distraction, and bamboozlement in play as the Stop Rush model will work for any Rightwing talker on the dial.

I don't think traditional RW talk radio can survive as it was because of the strength of this take down model. Corporations are cowards. They want to do shitty things, like underwrite RW talk radio, and be thought of as kindly grampa or the great Eagle Scout.

I would like to think that Rush and his ilk would just be cancelled and gone, a victim of low-profits his advertisers having to take some ownership of his noxious views, but I look at how Charles and David Koch are willing to just dump money down a hole to keep the edge of the blade as sharp as possible and I wonder if they would really let this tool go.

I've never met a wingnut who touts the National Review or Weekly Standard as if they mean something who likes to have those magazines having the free market credibility of an East German Publishing Collective thrown in their face.

It would be kind of fun to see how Mark Levin handles it.

    •  he'll be doing more and more personal promos (7+ / 0-)

for freedom works and heritage and the rest, to make up some of the losses and maybe the only real ads left will be die hard teabagger business owners.

pre stoprush and friends, the limbaugh show was working practically free for rove and the GOP, paid for by unconcerned advertisers. now, in the wake of the debt ceiling disaster he was key in enabling, he's dissing the republican 'establishment' he spent most of his career ass-kissing and reading for so the subsidies may not last too long.

This is a list of 76 universities for Rush Limbaugh that endorse global warming denial, racism, sexism, and GOP lies by broadcasting sports on over 170 Limbaugh radio stations.

enough Kochs and Adelsons out there to continue to pollute the airwaves. The John Birch Society will never go away. They can be beaten back for awhile, but a certain portion of the electorate will believe their BS.

if a habitat is flooded, the improvement for target fishes increases by an infinite percentage...because a habitat suitability index that is even a tiny fraction of 1 is still infinitely higher than zero, which is the suitability of dry land to fishes.

        •  30-40% of RW stations depend on our universities (3+ / 0-)

for community support/cred and ad $.

i doubt many of those stations could survive if they declared they were not renewing their contracts and were looking for non partisan alts.

then it might cost them more  than they would be willing to spend.
