I fit one notion of the libertarian cited in your "annoyed" link: I'm among those who "do not have a clue what libertarianism actually is." I've simply not blocked out the time to sift carefully for the similarities and differences among the little-l and big-L libertarians, Republicans posing as libertarians, anarcho-capitalists, Randians, recommenders of Austrian-economics harangues, etc. that I encounter in print, on the Web, and in person.

(Without fail, every time I've seen a libertarian blog post respond to objections from non-libertarians, the response is graceless and abusive, and invariably derides the questioners as stupid.)

The splintering; the resort to ponderous, unreadable revered texts; and the insistence that the whole of human social interaction can only be interpreted through a particular Urim and Thummim remind me of nothing so much as aggressively dogmatic religion.

It's whatever the believer wants it to be. This is especially true of conservatives who want to be labeled as libertarian when they realize just how uncool conservatism is. The core beliefs of it are juvenile. As a former libertarian myself, I understand the appeal of it. Do whatever the fuck you want, so long as you're not hurting others. Sounds great in theory, and if you don't put much thought into it.

Sure, there's some positions I still agree with them on, and likely always will. But those positions are just to sucker people into their twisted little ponzi scheme. Getting not-rich suckers to support the rich. That's what it all boils down to.

First they came for the farm workers, and I said nothing.

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.
