    We should be increasing the federal minimum wage to this level.  Introducing and campaigning for such a proposal would be great for the upcoming holiday season - it would earn a lot of public support.

    If cutting Social Security & Medicare benefits for low income seniors is what Democrats do after they win a bodget standoff, I'd hate to see what they do after they lose one.

      The GOP controlled House will never pass a minimum wage.
      The Democrats should have taken action to increase the minimum wage in 2009. Because we were in a recession, the Congress should have made the minimum wage effective in 2013 or 2014.

        Obama should have learned from his recent negotiations with the GOP that you get a lot farther when you push back.

        As I said, the public would very much favor an increase in the minimum wage.  The GOP would face even greater losses next election if they refuse to go along.

        Obama has nothing to lose and everything to gain by pushing the issue. So why doesn't he?
