Once upon a time, a hobbit goes to his truck and finds the door unlocked, some items stolen and others vandalized. The lock on the door is jammed in the unlock position, implying it's been picked. Curiously, a broken cigarette and a wooden clothes pin were left on the seat.

The next day, a weird guy, let's call him Ed, is hanging about on the apartment steps. Says he's moved in with one of the tenants. Later, he knocks on the door asking to use the phone to report stolen goods for the police to pick up. His social skills are nonexistent. The hobbit has to ask him to back up, as he is standing too close. He appears drugged, and has an eerie automaton-esque manner.  He is rejected, and proceeds to try another neighbor, whom he entirely fails to not piss off.

Hobbit goes out and fixes his truck.

The next day, hobbit goes to his truck and finds a different door unlocked, more items stolen and more vandalized. The lock on this door is also jammed in the unlock position, implying it's been picked. Curiously, a pair of sunglasses was left on the seat.

Hobbit takes the glasses, and shows them to the folks Ed is staying with, and asks "Do you know who these belong to?"  "Those are Ed's" they reply. Hobbit relates where and under what circumstances they were found.

Hobbit goes out and fixes his truck.

Later, he sees one of the folks Ed is staying with, and mentions some particular stolen items to look out for, and to please return them if found. Five minutes later, she returns bearing one of the items, found in her apartment among Ed's things.

Hobbit calls the police. Ed spends a night in the PHF (PHF "Puff" psychiatric holding facility). Then relocates to another city.

Hobbit spends seven hours installing an alarm in his truck.

    The end.
