I love me some vintage Pynchon, but I don't know if I want to read his take on 9/11.   There's something more comforting about being able to hold him out at a distance from the present (as when he covers WWII, the 60s, or the pure insanity of 18th century land surveying.)

Outside of M&D (and even in various parts inside it) he's never been the best prose stylist. I think part of his charm is that he can be very kitchen-sink, with things soaring and falling flat within a single phrase.  All the reviews of Bleeding Edge have suggested it's a little more... matter-of-fact? in its style, if that's the right word.  Again, not much to suggest I need to run out and buy it.

Let me know when you finish, though, if you think it's worth it.
